2024 "THE BLUES GOES LATIN"

The relationship between jazz, European classical music, and South American influences is complex and interesting. Jazz originated in the United States in the early 20th century and has certainly been influenced by European classical music, particularly in terms of harmonies and structure. Jazz musicians have often incorporated elements of classical music into their compositions and improvisations. South American influences, such as those from Brazilian music genres like bossa nova and samba, have also found their way into jazz. Musicians such as Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd, for example, have integrated Brazilian rhythms and melodies into their jazz music, giving rise to a subgenre known as “Brazilian jazz” or “Latin jazz.”

New Jazz Orchestra, conducted by Peter Beets

The now world-famous pianist Peter Beets has assembled his outstanding orchestra, which once again this year features a number of highly talented young musicians. Under his enthusiastic direction, they bring out the best in one another—something that can be both heard and felt in the audience, whether in ensemble playing or in solos. Peter Beets blends Latin blues with the many forms of Spanish-Brazilian influences. Experience the timeless beauty of jazz in a setting as regal as the music itself.

Koen Schouten, one of the Netherlands’ leading jazz experts, is coming to the Speeldoos in Baarn. He will be your “tour guide” on this unforgettable journey through this colorful musical landscape.
