Julia Philippens
Julia Philippens is a leading Dutch jazz violinist known for her unique ability to blend improvisation, jazz, and classical music.
– Cross-genre: Although she received a classical education, she has specialized in jazz improvisation. She graduated summa cum laude with a Master’s degree in Jazz from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Fuse: She is the co-founder and artistic director of the popular ensemble
– Fuse, known as the house band for the television show *Podium Witteman* (now *Podium Klassiek*).
– Collaborations: Philippens has worked with a wide range of artists and orchestras, ranging from pop stars such as Shakira and Marco Borsato to renowned jazz ensembles such as the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw.
Special Projects:
- Jazz Violin Concerto: Composer Thomas Beijer wrote a jazz violin concerto especially for her, fulfilling her long-cherished dream of experiencing complete freedom within a large-scale work.
- Family: She is the sister of the well-known classical violinist Rosanne Philippens; together, they occasionally perform to bring their different worlds (classical vs. jazz) together.
- Educatie: In addition to her performances, she teaches at the Conservatory of Amsterdam
